It is an amazing fact how much advice there is about love. Of course, with Valentine’s Day around the corner, love is in the air. With healthy relationships, you know your mate well enough, so you are ready to enjoy the day. If your relationship is new, then it might be more difficult. Most times you can just ask them what they would like or feel comfortable about. It is easy to put your cards on the table so you both can set the ground rules from the start. On the other hand, if things are rocky, remember how the Beatles sang, “Can’t buy me love,” and don’t expect the world. Now, if you are still looking or ready to look again, do not give up hope. When you least expect it lightning might strike – not like the movies, but in a more subtle way. Like planting a seed, be patient, and give love time to bloom. You may one day look at your best friend and suddenly realize you have deeper feelings. The most important thing to remember in all relationships is that the other person cannot read your mind. Do not expect them to automatically react the way you’d expect or want them to. Instead, guide in subtle ways, so they know what you wish. If you do not have good communication, then the relationship is headed for a terrible misunderstanding. It can and will get to the point where you are talking at one another and no one is listening. Slow down and cherish what you have. No one is perfect, and the more you talk to one another without jealousy and with trust, the healthier the relationship will become. Acknowledge that each person has their own strengths and weaknesses. Build upon that and enjoy one another. You might be thinking, “That is just too hard, and it rarely works.” You are wrong. One of the best examples in the animal kingdom are swans – they mate for life and are a good example of love. When their mate dies, they often die of heartbreak soon thereafter. If they live on, they have an extended period of mourning, and then will look for another partner. They are loving, but they are also aggressive while watching over their family. It is amazing how the swans know more about successful relationships than we do! If you desire a relationship or are in one, do not rush things, and enjoy life with each other. Remember this, the more respect you give in a partnership, the more love you will receive from it. Now, with all this love knowledge, go and have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
