Connected navigation solution developed for future Scanias

News

A connected navigation system from HERE Technologies will be used on the next generation of Scania trucks.

The technology will be deployed within the truck manufacturer’s infotainment systems.

Therefore, the HERE SDK (software development kit) works with the software company’s location services and dynamic map data.

Furthermore, the system will work with Scania’s connected navigation and ADAS technologies.

The HERE-powered connected navigation solution will be available for Scania’s global fleet.

As a result, trucks in markets from Europe to South Korea will be equipped with it.

The connected navigation system features routing and search functions that incorporate truck specific road information.

Meanwhile, Scania says it will also build its companion mobile application for drivers with the HERE SDK.

In other words, drivers will then get a consistent experience both in and out of the vehicle.

European law requires trucks to have an Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) solution.

Therefore, Scania will use HERE speed limit data to comply with the directive.

The ISA solution helps drivers acknowledge and comply with legal speed limits on any given road.

Peter Vincent, head of connected systems at Scania, said the decision was a straightforward one.

“We chose HERE because of the quality of its location data and services.

“Also due to the ease of integration into our systems,” he said.

“Integrating connected maps into the vehicle lowers fuel consumption.

“In addition, it enables new functions for future vehicles.”

In response, HERE’s Gino Ferru was delighted to get involved with the truck manufacturer.

“We are honoured by the trust Scania is showing in our platform.

“It will enable many use cases including navigation, ADAS and electrification.”

Concluding, he stated: ”We are making truck driving more efficient and contributing to sustainable transportation.”
