New truck names are a nod to the past for FSG

News

FSW has chosen new truck names that reflect the days of actual horsepower in transport for its latest fleet additions.

The operator has taken delivery of three Actros models for its fleet.

Furthermore, it has named them Boxer, Goliath and Tommy Boy.

Specifically, the new truck names come from shire horses that used to pull coal in the 1920s.

The family business is now in its fourth generation and is proud of its long history.

Therefore, it was keen to mark the arrival of the new trucks in a fitting tribute to founder, Thomas George Fuller.

However, the new truck names are the only common element with the horses.

The fleet additions offer a range of technologies for improved safety, efficiency and driver comfort.

For example, the trucks offer predictive powertrain control and active brake assist as standard.

In addition, there’s a revised dashboard for better functionality.

Meanwhile, the new trucks are all 2551 variants and have flat-floored BigSpace cabs.

The power comes from 12.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engines, with 510hp.

Continuing, the Actros models have Jost sliding fifth wheels and camera systems by SM UK Midlands.

The FSW brand was founded in 2005 by parent company Fuller & Sons.

Specifically, it was set up to work on the United Pallet Network, of which it is a shareholder member.

The FSW fleet has 16 trucks in total.

There are five tractor units and 11 rigids – a combination of 26- and 18-tonners.

Importantly, all but one of the vehicles wear a Mercedes-Benz badge.

One of the new trucks was added to the fleet as part of the company’s increased business.

Director Stuart Fuller, a great-grandson of the founder, explains more.

“The Actros suits us perfectly,” he explained.

It’s proved to be highly reliable, while the servicing costs are also competitive.”
