MAN and ABB announce electromobility plans for the long-haul

A partnership between MAN and ABB has been announced around the area of electromobility. 

The news comes as MAN displayed a prototype of its electric truck for the first time in public.

Furthermore, the company announced future plans around charging capabilities.

Specifically, MAN and ABB E-Mobility will work together on megawatt charging. 

In other words, the two companies will bring the technology to markert in the next three years. 

Therefore, big plans have been put forward by MAN and ABB E-mobility for the next phase of electromobility.

Importantly, the operational capability for heavy-duty long-haul trucking is for daily driving ranges between 600 and 800km. 

Moreover, with their commitment to electromobility, the two companies believe the industry is ready to proceed. 

In addition, they urged legislators to establish the policy framework for zero-emission road haulage.

Meanwhile, Dr. Volker Wissing, federal minister of digital and transport, spoke after driving the electric truck.

“We need to decarbonize road freight transport to achieve our climate targets,” he stated. 

“Therefore, we are focusing above all on the market ramp-up of climate friendly commercial vehicles. 

“And, the development of a corresponding high-performance charging infrastructure.” 

Continuing, he stated that the project between MAN and ABB would provide ‘important learnings’. 

“What is important now, is to get more e-trucks on the road quickly. 

“The partnership between MAN and ABB shows that we are on the right track.” 

Meanwhile, the MAN truck already has the technology to enable ranges between 600 and 800km. 

Essentially, ABB E-mobility will assist in bringing the required charging systems to market quickly.

Frank Mühlon, CEO of ABB E-mobility, outlined the vision.

“Our shared ambition is to bring this new technology to market within three years.

Concluding, he said: “In the past, such development phases have often taken much longer.”
