The cleanest trucks on the Carlsberg fleet? Probably

News

Two electric trucks have joined the logistics fleet at Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company (CMBC).

The company’s fleet is the largest of its kind in the UK operated by a brewer.

Furthermore, the addition of the new vehicles helps the Carlsberg ‘Together Towards Zero’ sustainability initative.

The two E-Tech D Wide trucks have been supplied by Renault Trucks and will enter service by the end of July.

Specifically, one of the vehicles is a 26-tonner, the other is 18-tonnes.

Initially, they will operate out of the Carlsberg sites in Cardiff and Thurrock.

In preparation for the shift to electric, Carslberg has installed charging points at both Cardiff and Thurrock.

From there, they will can deliver up to 10,000 freshly brewed pints of beer to pubs every day.

Combined, the electric trucks will reduce the number of diesel-powered miles by nearly 40,000.

The partnership with Renault Trucks is a proof-of-concept trial.

However, if successful, there is potential to see additional electric trucks added to CMBC’s 270-strong fleet.

The vehicles are ideal for urban distribution, including routes into London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone.

Sarah Perry, vice president of customer supply chain at Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company explained the decision.

“The trucks are capable of travelling up to 150km on a single charge.”

“Therefore, the urbanised areas of Cardiff and Essex are ideal routes to test the potential of electric vehicles in our logistics network.

“This launch is potentially transformational to us as a brewer and logistics operator.

“In addition, it helps pubs to build back greener after the pandemic.”

Meanwhile, Carlos Rodrigues, MD, Renault Trucks UK and Ireland, was pleased to meet the needs of Carlsberg.

“We share CMBC’s ambitions for a net zero future and are proud CMBC have selected the E-Tech D Wide.”
